The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God* and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
     honest and fair,
     friendly and helpful,
     considerate and caring,
     courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
     respect myself and others,
     respect authority,
     use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

* The word "God" can be interpreted in a number of ways, depending on one's spiritual beliefs. When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, it is okay to replace the word "God" with whatever word your spiritual beliefs dictate.

Welcome to Girl Scouts Troop 20653, Starkville MS!  We are the ONLY international troop in Mississippi.

OUR MISSIONS
Girl Scouts Troop 20653 missions
are (1) to build a diverse group of girls who have the courage, confidence, and character to make this world a better place, and become the leaders of tomorrow, and (2) to reach out to international and local community in our area.

HISTORY

Girl Scouts Troop 20653 is the ONLY international Girl Scouts troop in Starkville and Mississippi.  We are an  interfaith, interracial, and intercultural group of girls. It is part of Oktibbeha County Service Unit and Girl Scouts Heart of the South.

The troop was founded in 2001 by Maria Cristina Bruzual (originally from Venezuela) and Diana Bridges (World Neighbors Association past president and member).  It was active from 2001-2005 and there were 12 girl members from different ages, nationalities (including Americans), and religions.  When Mrs. Bruzual moved to Houston, TX, the troop became inactive for 1 1/2 years.  Mrs. Bridges then requested sponsorship from World Neighbors Association to 'reincarnate' this unique troop.  The troop resumed its activities with 4 Brownie girl members in November 2006 under Mrs. Elaine Tallman leadership until mid June 2007 when she and her family had to move to Greeley, CO.  Currently several adults lead the troop and we have 20+ girl members. Besides meeting, we take educational, fun trips to various places.

MEETING
Brownie, Junior, and Cadette levels currently meet on Sundays from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Crossroads International Friendship House, Starkville MS.  Daisy meets on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:30 PM at Aldersgate UMC (across Sudduth Elementary School).  We also meet throughout Summer (except Daisy).
